Tips for teething: Do you recognize this? Your happy, cheerful baby suddenly changes into a sad, listless baby who doesn't want to eat, is very restless and prefers to sit on your lap. If you also notice that his diapers smell sour and he drools excessively, then know that a tooth is coming through. Other symptoms may include: - Wanting to chew and bite on everything, including putting their own hands in their mouth a lot - Red cheek/ear on the side where the tooth emerges - Increased temperature, sometimes even fever - Painful red and swollen gums, earache - Clingy and tearful - Little to no appetite - Easily irritated and having difficulty sleeping (also often waking up quickly) - Dirty, watery, acidic stools. Tips for teething: 1. Your baby craves attention (and not always in a pleasant way :-)), so give him plenty of it. Cuddle and comfort him. If he's fussy, take him on your lap. Your reassurance and love are very important. 2. If your child allows it, gently massage the gums with your finger. This may be a little painful at first, but can certainly provide relief later on. 3. Instead of massaging the gums, it can also be nice to bite on a teething ring (cool, from the refrigerator). 4. Cold food and drinks can also provide relief. Heat, however, is not, so be mindful of this when feeding, as the gums are extremely sensitive to it now. 5. What worked really well for us was Chamodent toothpaste gel from VSM Kind. This is a gel that massages the gums, has natural ingredients, and a pleasant taste. 6. Be careful with drooling, as this dries out the skin considerably. Apply more frequently to your chin. 7. Also consider the folds in the neck; excessive drooling can cause eczema or skin irritation. It's recommended to wear a nice, soft bandana to keep your neck and clothing from getting wet. We have many colors and designs in our collection.
