Parkinson's | Characteristics and supporting products

Parkinson's, a disease almost all of us are familiar with. But what is the disease? What are its symptoms? And which products can offer support for this condition?

Parkinson

Parkinson's is an incredibly complex disease. It originates in the brain, but the way it manifests is different for everyone. One person experiences trembling hands, another is stricken with depression, and yet another is rooted to the floor, unable to show any initiative.

Symptoms

The collective term for Parkinson's symptoms is parkinsonism. These symptoms can also occur when damage occurs in the same brain areas as in Parkinson's disease, but have a different cause, such as poor blood flow to the brain, the use of certain medications, or exposure to toxic substances.

A distinction is made between physical symptoms such as:

- Shaking (tremor) of the hands, legs, chin or tongue
- Slowing of movements, difficulty initiating movements and absence of automatic movements
- Stiffness of the muscles
- Posture and balance problems and sometimes falls if the disease persists for a longer period
- 'Freezing' of the legs while walking, it seems as if the feet are sticking to the floor

And symptoms that affect the brain, thinking and daily functioning:

- Slower thinking
- Decreased sense of smell
- Sleep disorders
- Constipation
- Mood problems and depression
- Change in sexual needs
